Designing Transparent Button in Flash:
- Start Flash and open a new document with width 200 pixel and height 100 pixels. Frame rate no matter for this tutorial.
- Select
rectangle tool in box and choose stroke color blalck and fill color red under tools colors.
- Draw small rectagle approximately in the center of the stage.
- Select
"Selection Tool" in tool box and select whole image. You can also select whole image by clciking in side Frame1 in timeline.
- Make sure that button is selected and your document view is 100%. You can select percentage on top right side drop down menu box. Hold down "Ctrl" Key on keyboard and hit "X" key to cut the button from stage and again Hold down "Ctrl" and hit "V" key to paste it again (Cut and Paste function). Cutand paste places graphics exactly center of the stage.
- Make sure that rectangel is selected. Go to Modify >> Covert to symbol (or F8). In convert to symbol dialogue box name your symbol as myButton (no matter if you choose any other name) and choose behavior as button.
- Now we converted rectangle graphic to button. Let us carry out a play test before we go for converting it to transparent button.
- Hold down "Ctrl" key and hit Enter to play the button. Take your mouse over the button. Observe mouse pointer gets changed to hand icon. (Note that for Movie Clip and Graphic behaviours the mouse pointer won't show hand icon). Close player and get on to main window.
- Double click on button to enter in edit mode.
- Now we are in edit mode. View time line. It is having only one frame for Up state. We are not going to change colors for Over and Down states since we are designing Transparent button.
- Click and Hold small dot in Up frame and drage it all the way to Hit Frame. Your time line should look similar to this:

The above action shifts the key frame from Up state to Hit state.
- Our much awaited Transparent button is ready for use. Hit back button (beside Scene Icon above to your right) to go back to button's main timeline.
- On stage you can't find the red button you drawn earlierr. Instead you see an aqua blue button which is an indication for transparent button. The transparent button on stage should look like the image below:
- Play the button by holding "Ctrl" key and hitting Enter Key. In play mode you see nothing but a white screen. But our button is existing in the center. Blindly move your mouse pointer on to center of the white space. When you touch transparent button area mouse pointer will get changed to hand icon.
With little creativity you can make small wonders in Flash by taking help of Transparent Button behavior.
